“Disarm” is a piece by the artist Pedro Reyes that was first exhibited at the Lisson Gallery in London in 2013. The installation involves a series of mechanized and automated musical instruments made from decommissioned firearms collected in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.
The re-purposing of the firearms represents the transformative power of art, effectively connecting three different worlds: sculpture, technology, and music. A complex program was implemented to enable the automation of the instruments that make up this mechanical orchestra, the result of a lengthy research process and an arduous collaborative effort.
“Disarm” has brought its unique message to new audiences around the world through installations in various different spaces.
